The Art of Ceramics

The Ardmore laboratory was born in 1985 from the passion of Fée Halsted (an artist originally from Zimbabwe) for the art of ceramics. He then joined, as his apprentice, Bonnie Ntshalintshali who through her creativity and meticulous attention to detail led Ardmore to success. Unfortunately Bonnie and other expert potters died of AIDS and so Ardmore, in 1999, started a foundation capable of providing not only for medical care, but also for the costs of funerals as well as for the education and maintenance of orphans. Therefore, these ceramics contain not only attention to the more traditional Zulu culture, but also the care and love that the artists infuse, through their hands, to shape unique pieces.

WHY PEOPLE LOVE OUR CERAMICS

The craftsmanship of our products

Ardmore ceramics contain passion and tradition, in fact, each piece has the history of South Africa and the Zulu culture behind it. The artists are all of South African origin and each piece contains the hands of a painter, a sculptor and a turner. These ceramics are unique pieces made from a special clay extracted from the Mpumalanga region and their shapes, colors and details best express the essence of the South African territory.

The attention to detail and the uniqueness of Ardmore products is also found in the fabrics whose prints continue to surprise with various colors, typically African fauna and flora.

Handmade furnishing accessories

Ardmore furniture is entirely handmade starting from the structure to its assembly. Many of the furniture pieces are produced in limited editions to emphasize the importance of exceptionality. Just as the ceramics are unique, so are the furnishing accessories, one example is the limited edition Zambezi Sofa that embodies the South African soul and is a work of art in its own right, a pleasure for collectors.
